The practice of family law encompasses the advice and representation on rights and obligations arising from paternity, cohabitation, marriage, separation and divorce. This includes the preparation and negotiation of domestic contracts (including marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, paternity agreements and separation agreements); advocating or negotiating parenting rights and responsibilities and child welfare matters; advocating or negotiating spousal and child support; advocating or negotiating property rights and obligations (consisting of a statutory equalizing or sharing of assets, usually, real property, business, trust and professional interests, savings, pension benefits and others); and advising on the tax implications of marriage, cohabitation, separation and divorce. These services may be delivered through negotiation, alternate dispute resolution (including mediation and arbitration) and advocacy before the relevant court or tribunal.
