Represented Newfoundland Transshipment Limited and Bantrel in a lengthy multi-million dollar construction trial with respect to the construction of the marine phase of the transshipment terminal, which included issues of alliance partnering and its inter-relationship with standard construction contracts. Undertook successful defence of a sixty million dollar claim advanced by a US multinational iron ore company against a Nova Scotia industrial company. Represented major cable television operators in Atlantic Canada in relation to ongoing development and expansion of their businesses. Represented the Chief Executive Officer of Nova Scotia based mining entity in successful defence of post-sale claims aggregating approximately eighty million dollars advanced by purchasers of the company. Served as members of ICC arbitration boards with respect to international commercial disputes and on dispute panels under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Represented the province of Prince Edward Island before the National Energy Board with respect to the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline as part of the province's on-going efforts to promote construction of a lateral line to PEI.
Represented electric utility operating in Newfoundland and Labrador with respect to personal injury claims ranging from significant impairment to fatality. Represented the operators of the Hibernia platform concerning the first platform workers certification in the eastern Canada offshore area. Represented the Plaintiff oil rig owner in the most significant product liability matter to be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada in recent years. Provided counsel to medical professionals and health care institutions throughout Atlantic Canada in liability and other claims advanced against them. Litigated a myriad of issues before all levels of Court in our region, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. Acted for the private sector purchaser of the assets of the Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation, including waste disposal plant and underground steam energy system. We have acted as counsel to developers of greenfield and run-of-river upgrade hydro projects in NF. |
