Client Update - Minimum Wage Review Committee Recommends Three-Year Increase

In 2004 the Labour Standards Code was amended to establish a Minimum Wage Review Committee composed of equal numbers of employer and employee representatives appointed by the Minister of Environment and Labour. Under the Code, the Committee must conduct an annual review of the minimum wage and prepare recommendations to the Minister. On January 17, 2008 the Committee provided its recommendation to the Minister.

The Committee’s recommendation was released on January 31, 2008. The Committee recommended incremental increases over a three-year period that would see the minimum wage rise from the current rate of $7.15 to $9.65 per hour by October 1, 2010.
